Its competition is not nearly as good looking, and the Mazda 6’s improved offering sees this medium-sizer taking the challenge not only to its segment peers but to its more expensive European rivals. A comprehensive second facelift of the current model, the Mazda 6 sedan and wagon get revised engines (a turbocharged 2.5-litre petrol and an upgraded diesel alternative), a slick new cabin layout, subtly updated design on the outside, and more standard tech. A truly beautiful car, both in appearance and appointments, the fairly substantial mid-cycle update to Mazda’s flagship sedan takes an already excellent car, a little further upmarket. In the rapidly shrinking mid-size passenger-car segment, the upgraded 2019 Mazda 6 looks set to secure its position as the pick of the pack in an automotive market dominated by crossover SUVs.
